It will be good to include some of your emotion when describing what you saw when you wife lock the door etc.
One reason why stories are so good other than the plot is that they included alot of emotions like jealousy, anger confusion etc. With emotions readers are more likely to picture themself in the story imagining that they are the guy and it will feel more mind boggling.
