I've come to the conclusion after watching Budget 2021 that Geylang and the legal public face of vice in SG is officially history.

If they won't give any money to help support legal nightlife entertainment like bars, pubs and karaoke places, and just want them to all either apply for grants to pivot into normal F&B or outright close shop, then GL is even more of a gone case.

COVID-19 truly has served as a useful tool for the government to wipe out any industry or segment of society they've always found distasteful for their moral qualms. The new generation of leaders would prefer to drive things further underground and online, with the misguided idea that "out of public sight = out of mind". Geylang is ripe for property developers and the state to outright buy out massive land tracts and gentrify now. It's over.
