Yes, logically. Staying at the current job would definitely be the most ideal. Further with the recession is coming. Job search will be even more bleak.
I am considering why lower pay is that I feel i dont need that much to survive, I have kind of 看破 in life that I probably wont be getting married or even attached as the living expenses as you guys know is getting tougher each day.
My current job earns 4k/month, understand comparing to grab there are lot more of pros than con as office job has AWS, PB, CPF and on leave or MC, you are still getting paid.
whereas Grab is something physical, when you stop, the pay stop as well and it is subject to the weather and etc. Physically not sustainable too in the long run.
I have calculated in general i will need about 2.5k/month to survive + some saving for rainy days.
Option 1
tender immediately, serve the notice of 1 month then join grab walker + rest 1-2 month before do a job search
Option 2
work a few months and try out if cannot then join grab walker + rest 1-2 month before do a job search
Option 3
work until secured AWS and then tender
my thought for option 3 is that if can work till then December means I probably can continue to work.
Only 30ish, sound so tired already...

Depending on your age, mid career switch is difficult. And doing grab is definitely not an easy job
good luck bro

...
have to account for inflation, 2.5k/mth now means that 10 years later it will be 3k/mth (assume 2% annual), 20 years later it will be 3.7k/mth. if u switch to low stress job, u might end up stressing again because the salary cannot maintain your expenses. also, u won't be able to save up much because u spend most of what u earn. if u are sg citizen, your cpf is locked up until your 60s, and by then u receive a few hundred every month, its enough for jiak cai png lim kopi. but if u are rich man son ah siah kia, then no issue la
right now, u have an extra 1500 per month after expenses, u can save up and invest a portion of it, u may not see the benefits until 20, 30, 40 years later
do u have any side hustles? are u monetizing your hobbies? for eg: if u know how to play an instrument, u can teach for some side income
lastly, what do u want in life? and how do u plan to achieve it? its something to think about
all the best

Thanks pantyhose for the advice, you are right about spending most of income on expenses when income is low and might have another stress issue which is money, point taken.
unfortunately, i dont have any side hustles.
what do i want in life? hmm i envision myself being single and wants to retire/work for fun or at the very least not to be worry about money about the age of 45? Hence i come up a plan of having 1.5k to 2k per month for the rest of life. Assuming i start at age 45, needed 24k per year that means i need to have 240k cash in bank so i can reach age 55 to take out a lump sum from cpf and carry on another 10 years to wait till my CPF monthly payout.
That's my thought but i guess to carry out this plan, probably I have to keep my current job so I can achieve with this plan at a faster rate

Thanks for highlighting!
so after setting aside ur brs/frs in cpf at 55, u able to have 240k to be drawn out in lump sum? means u got have a good salary bro.
Recently there is a change of boss for me, the boss is much more driven than the former boss so there is quite a fair bit of work to be done.
I feel a little stress but otherwise is fine FOR NOW. Not sure about later on.
Little more to myself, I am in early thirty. I did ask around my friend, mostly encourage me to carry as they all say, this is just adjusting period and you are learning new things, eventually I will get used to it.
I am thinking about quitting and have 3 month rest (meanwhile maybe do some grab) and return to look for a less stress job etc.
Have saving to sustain 8 months.
I am in a dilemma as I want to have a less stress job but I know I might suffer in a long run or should I keep preserving and see how is it.
Hope to see some insights from the bros.
Thanks!

Thanks Hellwolf for this post. Like yourself, I had a change in role in my current company earlier this year and the demand of the current role is quite taxing for me mentally. Maybe because it's something completely new for me, maybe things might get better. But one thing for sure is I feel very stressed and anxious and frequently lose sleep over work matters.
I am around mid 30s now and the role I'm in is actually considered a junior role which was offered after I took part in some govt initiative for mid career professionals last year during the pandemic. When I joined the workforce as a fresh grad, I had a decent paying, stable job, was able to build up my savings quickly, and able to afford going on 3-4 trips yearly. But due to some bad career decisions made over the years, I'm actually penniless now. No savings, not much CPF and no investments (only a bit of cpf savings invested in unit trusts). Sad state.
I do feel lucky that I even have a job now. Without a job, I also won't do grab/food. No car, no experience in driving even though i have a license, bad cycling skills (but you mentioned grabwalker and I'm curious so will look that up). But it sucks to feel the stress and anxiety, the palpitations and the lack of sleep. Perhaps due to the bad decisions I've made over the years make me feel that I cannot screw up any further, therefore the stress. I always thought of just quitting and take a break, but don't have the luxury to do so due to no money. I also want to do just do simple jobs, no stress kind. But like many have said, this type of jobs usually come with low pay. Also probably easily replaced by automation in future. So probably can only afford to do simple low stress jobs when I get a second source of income.
On the personal front, I've never been in a relationship in the whole of my adult life. I have no experience with zhabor. So to fill the void, I used to watch a lot of porn during my younger days, until I came across studies that show how jerking off to porn (PMO) fucks up the mind. I've cut down on porn a lot over the years, but to fill the void, I visit masseuse (mainly SGL) once or twice a week, which makes it worse because I'm caught in the same viscious cycle but spending more money now. Can imagine why I have no savings.
Over the years while I was making bad career decisions, I also started drifting away from various group of friends. While they have moved up successfully in their career, I've stagnated and I always feel I don't fit in, to a certain extent, feel paiseh to be among them. I only keep in touch with a few friends every now and then, and would hang out every few weeks or so. But I try not to mention too much about the job stress. Nobody likes to be around a negative person right?
Overall feeling lonely does have a toll on me and I find reprieve in seeking companionship with MLs. Would feel good for a while, then get subsumed by various emotions such as guilt, shame and stress again (cos anyhow spend money). I actually still live with my parents, and try to give them allowance as best as I can, pay for utilities etc. But sometimes I feel if I didn't visit MLs I could do more for the household. To make better use of my free time, I've signed up for a gym membership, got a private trainer and work out regularly nowadays (3-4 times a week) to cope with the work stress and to put my money to better use. Sometimes i go rock climbing, jogging, badminton etc. Nowadays restrictions have eased and can watch football with football kakis also. But once pockets of free time appear, loneliness and horniness set in, and it's back to square one.
So I'm not sure where I'm headed. Regarding the work stress, I'm seeking counselling soon and see where that takes me. I'm also considering putting a portion of the amount I spend on ML into some low risk unit trust portfolio or what, at least I'd have a bit of emergency fund.

Well if you need to find a masseuse, it’s a necessity to you and not a waste of money. Even married bros sometimes have breakdown of communications with spouse and need to find someone convenient to confide with. It’s like finding a psychologist with extra services. Which is why we need to keep such services affordable. Many average bros like you and me will go bonkers if one day such services are out of reach for us.

Get therapy. You clearly have the self awareness and intelligence to benefit from it.
Your self destructive behaviour stem from anxiety and self esteem issues which have deep roots.
Find a good one. It will quite likely be the best $1,000 you’ll ever spend.

Hi Ginger,
Nice to meet you! and thanks for sharing your situation. We are definitely in the similar situation. I noticed that you mentioned maybe things will get better. Which I think probably we have to give the job sometime and eventually we might be able to adept to it before making a decision. Market are really bad now so to have a job its quite fortunate.
For finding MLs, I am in the same vicious cycle as you but I am taking steps to control hopefully it works for you too. The fact is as such that we definitely cannot do a cold turkey and completely stop finding MLs, so we moderate it as you mentioned you find MLs on weekly basis 1-2 times. Perhaps your first step is to cut it just once per week and from there make it bi weekly and eventually make it monthly once. They key here is to take the first step.
From there you can start to see your savings accumulate and from there maybe you can do fixed deposit to earn some interest (better than putting in bank) but the idea is there to build up your savings.
In terms of doing grab walker, it is definitely something that you and I cannot do for long term but should we decide to call it a quits on our job. This is more of helping to keep a living expense and at a same time to rest mentally or while looking for a job.
At the end of the day, we must not be rash into making a decision because you must know the chances of getting back the same type of job/pay are low as recession are coming.
Lets work together and give ourselves and the job some time to adapt to it.
Wishing you all the best Ginger!
Regards,
Hellwolf

Thanks larue bro. I've been keen on therapy for a while, and have enquired with a few clinics. In fact have arranged for a tele-consult session with one last week but the waiting time is about a month. I hope to be able to find a good one to work with.

Thanks hellwolf bro. Sometimes it feels good to know that we're not alone. Cheers!
8 months isn't a long time. And what if there's an emergency? What are you going to do?
Oil prices have gone up cos of the conflict in Ukraine. If this trend continues, driving a Grab is only gonna get harder for the next few months/years.
Always line up another stable income stream before leaving your current job.

I have calculated in general i will need about 2.5k/month to survive + some saving for rainy days.
Other than inflation which the other bro brought up, the cost of living is also increasing. Your 2.5k per month job isn't going to keep pace with your needs. And with the way things are going on in the world, things are gonna be pretty shitty by the time we are in our 60s/70s.
And if you have accepted that you're gonna be #foreveralone , then you need to plan for aged care, medical care and other contingencies too.
Don't assume your calculations will be relevant for the rest of your life.

None of the above.
Start sending out CVs today. Find something good, then tender your resignation. Why can't you look for other opportunities while you're on your current job?
All you need is:
1. 15 minutes to update your CV
2. 15-20 minutes every day to look through job portals
3. 5 minutes to click "send application"
4. Taking time off strategically to attend interviews
Please don't quit without another stable job lined up. As you have pointed out yourself, driving a Grab isn't sustainable at all.
